The Chinese In Wales Association has collaborated with the Confucius Institute at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David to establish the Confucius Institute Chinese School in Swansea in 2016. It now has over 140 pupils aged between 4 and 18. Two-hour classes are offered every Sunday during term time, in both morning and afternoon sessions, to provide flexibility for parents. The school boasts a team of highly qualified and experienced teachers. All instructors undergo rigorous training and hold relevant certifications in Chinese language education.
As a Cambridge International Test Centre, the school offers qualifications in Mandarin GCSE and AS Level. Additionally, it prepares students for the internationally recognized Youth Chinese Test and HSK Chinese language proficiency test. Our fully trained teaching staff understand the learning needs of students in the UK and provide the highest standard of teaching.

The Confucius Institute Chinese School welcomes children of all backgrounds who wish to learn Mandarin and experience Chinese culture. While most of our pupils are from Chinese families living in South Wales, we also have a number of pupils from Welsh backgrounds. The school welcomes all who share an interest in China!

Chinese has rapidly become a language of global work opportunities. Pupils at the school develop important life skills by becoming fluent speakers of Chinese. For pupils of Chinese background, the school aims to develop a deep sense of connection to their Chinese roots, culture, and heritage.

School class structure

Classes are structured from beginner level up to advanced AS/HSK5 level. After their initial level test, pupils are placed in classes according to their ability in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Classes try to reflect the age range as much as possible. Currently we have the following classes: Mandarin Starters Classes, Classes 1 to 5, and Chinese Club.
