From January 2024, traffic police will use speed monitoring devices on the roadside to identify offenders. Driving over 20mph in residential and urban areas, if stopped by police, the minimum fine is £100 and three demerit points.
South Wales Police said: “The first 12 months will focus on educating citizens to obey 20mph. If you are stopped by the police on the road, the police will communicate with you and remind you of the risks of speeding. If you are sincere and learn, you will probably not be issued a ticket. However, if you are caught by a fixed speed camera, you will definitely be fined.”
The Welsh government explained that only those driving at speeds of 26mph or above will be prosecuted.
Everyone must remember to drive carefully and obey traffic rules!
